Bridlington North Residents Reap Rewards of Award-Winning Green Roofing.

Liberal Democrat councillors for Bridlington North are celebrating a major win for local residents following East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s success at the Pitched Roofing Awards. The council was commended for its sustainable re-roofing project, which has brought modern, energy-efficient upgrades to hundreds of homes right here in our community.

The project, saw the full replacement of 321 roof coverings on council-owned properties. Crucially for our local climate goals, these upgrades included integrated solar PV panels, allowing Bridlington tenants to generate their own renewable energy.

Sustainable Homes,  this isn't just about an award; it’s about a warmer home and lower monthly costs. By using a single-manufacturer system, the project guaranteed high-quality durability with a 15-year performance warranty, ensuring these benefits last for years to come.

This initiative is a practical example of how local governments can tackle the twin challenges of the cost-of-living crisis and fuel poverty while simultaneously reducing our carbon footprint.

The Liberal Democrat group has long championed the transition to "green" social housing. Our councillors believe that high-quality, energy-efficient housing should be a right, not a luxury.

"We are delighted to see Bridlington North at the forefront of this award-winning scheme.
For too long, residents have faced rising energy costs, so seeing 321 homes (including many in our ward) fitted with solar technology is a huge step forward.
This project proves that we can protect the environment while putting money back into the pockets of local tenants. We will continue to push the council to expand these green initiatives so that every resident in Bridlington can benefit from a more sustainable, affordable future." Cllr Mike Heslop-Mullens -Bridlington North

The programme was completed on time and within budget, demonstrating that ambitious environmental targets can be met through efficient, well-managed local projects.
