Bridlington Speaks Up: We Must End Violence Against Women and Girls Now!

​As your local Lib Dem Councillors, we were increasingly inspired to see the overwhelming community support at the 'Speaks Up' event at Bridlington Spa!

​Over 150 residents and local businesses showed up to join the fight against men's violence towards women and girls—demonstrating a powerful commitment to making the East Riding a safer place for everyone.

​This event was a key part of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s work under its White Ribbon accreditation. The message is clear: We all have a role to play, and men especially must actively speak out and take action.

​The event heard from the incredible Lisa Squire (founder of Libby’s Legacy) whose advocacy is inspirational, alongside great insights from White Ribbon UK and Community Vision.

Mayor Campbell’s £1.2m Recruitment Fiasco: A "Chaotic and Costly" Waste of Taxpayer Cash

The East Riding Liberal Democrats are demanding answers after it was revealed that Mayor Luke Campbell has blown over £1.1 million on recruitment consultants, yet has failed to secure a permanent leadership team for the Combined Authority. ​Despite a staggering spend of £1,177,159 on outside agencies, the Mayor’s office remains in a state of flux. While nine executive roles, boasting salaries between £110,000 and £170,000; were advertised late last year, the public is still waiting for news of any confirmed appointments. ​ High Salaries, Zero Results ​The scale of the proposed payroll is eye-watering. ​Last night, viewers across the country and many of us here in East Yorkshire, tuned in to BBC One to witness a moment of pure community magic. The DIY SOS: Big Build special for the Cherry Tree Youth Hub was a heart-swelling reminder of what can be achieved when a community refuses to take "no" for an answer. ​For years, the youth of the Cherry Tree area have been the forgotten face of local provision. Since the pandemic, they were forced to meet in a gazebo in a park, enduring the biting East Yorkshire winters while waiting for a place to call their own.
