East Riding "Punished" by £32m Cut as Local Labour Leader Backs Westminster.
The East Riding of Yorkshire is facing a £62 million funding cut over next three years, snd £33 million a year there afte; under new Labour government plans—a move critics say "punishes" the area for its rural landscape and elderly population.
While Liberal Democrat councillors fight for a fairer deal, the local political fallout has intensified. The East Riding Labour Leader and the Labour group has sparked outrage by siding with Westminster to support these cuts, choosing party loyalty over the financial well-being of the residents they represent....
A "Deeply Flawed" Deal
The funding formula is set to make East Riding one of the biggest losers in the country. Liberal Democrats warn the impact will be devastating:
SEND Crisis: Already the worst-funded authority for special needs, the region will get a meager 2% increase compared to the 6.4% national average.
Service Collapse: Critical services—including road repairs, transport, and community safety—face being "dismantled," making them nearly impossible to rebuild.
Politics Over People
Despite the clear threat to local services, the East Riding’s Labour group has refused to oppose the settlement.
"This funding cut will be felt in towns and villages right across the East Riding," warned Lib Dem Group Leader Cllr Denis Healy. "Rural and coastal communities cannot be treated as an afterthought."
By supporting the cuts, the local Labour group has abandoning the very families they serve.
As the Council undergoes the drastic process of scrapping and redesigning essential services, residents will be increasingly aware that Labour representatives endorsed the settlement that deprived East Riding of tens of millions in vital funding.
Unlike a Labour representative, elected Liberal Democrats in East Riding are true local champions and fight for the communities they represent.
