Lib Dems Fight Back Against Fly-Tipping "Epidemic" Blighting the East Riding

The East Riding Liberal Democrats have launched a major campaign to crack down on the illegal waste dumping blighting local roadsides, village lanes, and green spaces, accusing the Conservative of letting waste criminals run riot.
The move comes as local Lib Dem campaigners and volunteers report shocking levels of fly-tipping and litter across the region. Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Coe, speaking after a recent clean-up operation near Beverley, didn't mince his words about the state of the local environment.

"There was unbelievable amounts of litter and fly-tipping today at the big lay-by in Bishop Burton," "It is completely unacceptable. But while others look the other way, Lib Dems are getting stuck in. It’s great to be part of the litter picking community of Beverley, helping to clear up our streets and open spaces time and again." Cllr Paul Coe
“Residents across the East Riding are rightly fed up with seeing their communities blighted by fly-tipping while those responsible escape the consequences. This is not just an environmental issue—it’s about pride in our area and fairness for taxpayers who are left to foot the bill." Cllr Denis Healy  - Leader Lib Dem Group ERYC

The local picture reflects a collapsing national situation. Fly-tipping incidents across England have surged to a staggering 1.26 million cases annually.

The Liberal Democrats nationally pin the blame firmly on the previous and current central government failures.
"Under the Conservatives' watch and now Labour’s, local communities have been plagued by a fly-tipping epidemic. From overflowing bins to piles of hazardous waste, fly-tipping is blighting our landscapes and causing misery for residents." Daisy Cooper MP-Lib Dem Deputy Leader

Action, Not Just Words: Councillors Getting Stuck In
While Conservative-run councils manage decline from behind their desks, East Riding Liberal Democrat councillors believe in leading from the front. Across our towns and villages, Lib Dem representatives are rolling up their sleeves, grabbing litter pickers, and physically clearing rubbish out of the wards they represent.

From community action days in Bridlington, Hessle and Beverley to targeted clean-ups in our rural lanes, Lib Dem teams are out in all weathers ensuring that hazardous waste and neglected eyesores are thoroughly cleared.

By working alongside residents, councillors are ensuring that community pride is restored to the doorsteps of the East Riding, proving that a vote for the Liberal Democrats means an immediate investment in the cleanliness of your neighbourhood.

"Liberal Democrats are standing up for our towns and villages with a clear plan to crack down on waste crime, support our communities, and finally make the polluter pay. We will not stand by while our countryside is treated like a dumping ground.” Cllr Denis Healy

The Lib Dem Plan: Make the Polluter Pay
For too long, East Riding residents have watched their quiet lanes and urban corners be treated as personal dumping grounds by criminals, while overstretched local authorities are left picking up a £19.3 million clean-up bill nationwide.

The Liberal Democrats believe that the financial burden of waste management must shift from the hard-pressed taxpayer to the lawbreaker. To reclaim our local environment, the party is proposing a common-sense, community-led solution:

£5,000 "Tip-Off" Rewards: Cash rewards of up to £5,000 for local citizens who provide information leading to the successful prosecution of illegal dumpers, empowering vigilant neighbours to help council enforcement officers tackle waste crime head-on.
Tougher Fines: Boosting the minimum court fine for fly-tipping to £2,500 so the punishment centralised on criminals finally fits the crime.
£5 Bulky Waste Collections: Urging councils to cap "bulky waste" collection fees at just £5. By making responsible disposal affordable, we remove any excuse for illegal dumping.
Self-Sustaining Funding: The revenue generated from these increased fines will directly subsidise the low-cost collection services, creating a circular system of total accountability.
Cleaning Up the East Riding
With government statistics revealing a worrying 9% increase in fly-tipping incidents over the last year alone, local Lib Dems argue that national frameworks are failing market towns and rural communities like ours. While the Environment Agency focuses primarily on massive, industrial hazardous sites, local councils are left holding the bag.

By incentivising the public to speak up and making it virtually free for households to dispose of large items safely, the Liberal Democrats want to end the culture of impunity that fly-tippers have enjoyed for too long.

As we head toward the upcoming local elections, the choice for our area is clear. The East Riding Liberal Democrats are the only party offering a proactive, well-funded strategy to clean up our streets, support community volunteers, and protect our natural world for the next generation.

It is time to stop the rot, penalise the polluters, and start rewarding the local citizens who help keep our communities beautiful.
