Councillor Ends Forty-Year Road Ordeal for Local Residents


​​A decades-long battle over a severely damaged road has finally come to an end for residents of Waterworks Cottages on Dunswell Road. Following months of persistent campaigning, the community is celebrating long-awaited improvements after Yorkshire Water resurfaced the entire private lane serving their homes.


Earlier this year, Councillor Phil Redshaw (Lib Dem, Cottingham North) sharply criticised the utility company after residents endured over 40 years of severe potholes, deteriorating road conditions, and difficult access on the Yorkshire Water-owned lane.

​Persistence Pays Off
​The breakthrough comes after months of intense campaigning and negotiation led by Cllr Redshaw, who consistently pressed the utility company to take responsibility for the stretch of road.
​"For decades, residents have had to put up with potholes, damaged vehicles and difficult access on this Yorkshire Water-owned road,". "After raising the issue repeatedly, chasing different departments and meeting Yorkshire Water on site to show them the condition of the lane first-hand, they’ve now completed the work."  Cllr Phil Redshaw 

​The extensive resurfacing project has completely transformed the private lane, providing long-awaited relief to the local community.
​A Welcome Resolution
​Expressing his satisfaction with the outcome, Cllr Redshaw highlighted the impact the work will have on the daily lives of the residents.
​"After months of campaigning, I’m delighted that Yorkshire Water has now resurfaced the entire private lane serving Waterworks Cottages on Dunswell Road," he said. "It’s fantastic to see residents finally getting the safe, properly surfaced road they have deserved for so long. It just goes to show that persistence pays off!"

​Cllr Redshaw also extended his gratitude to the utility company for their ultimate cooperation in resolving the long-standing dispute, adding, "I’d also like to thank Yorkshire Water for finally listening to residents’ concerns and carrying out these much-needed improvements."
