Empowering East Riding: Council Backs Motion to Boost Awareness of Free Health Assessment Boditrax Tech
In a major step toward prioritising community health and preventative care, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has unanimously passed a motion to raise awareness of Boditrax machines, a free, medically approved body analysis service available to local residents.
The motion, brought forward by Councillor Jayne Phoenix, received full cross-party support at the Full Council meeting on June 24, 2026.
A Boditrax machine is an advanced, medically trusted body composition analyzer widely used in gyms, leisure centers, and clinics. Using safe, imperceptible bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), the machine takes just 30 seconds to provide up to 20 key health metrics, helping users track fitness goals and cellular health.
In East Riding, the service operates on a free appointment basis at participating local hubs, including all East Riding Leisure centers and select Libraries. The free, 30-minute consultations include a full body scan measuring 15 different metrics, such as bone mass, visceral fat, water content, metabolic rate, and metabolic age, with results easily tracked via the free Boditrax app.
The Full Speech by Cllr Jayne Phoenix
Addressing the chamber, Councillor Phoenix shared her personal discovery of the technology and urged both colleagues and residents to embrace the initiative:
"6 months ago, I hadn't even heard about Boditrax. I only found out when I was invited as a ward councillor to attend the reopening of Bridlington North library after a refurbishment.
I was intrigued by the Boditrax machine because health and wellbeing is personally important, and as a ward Councillor, the health and wellbeing of residents in East Riding is a priority, especially as we recently passed the motion on our prevention strategy.
So, what IS Boditrax?
It is a medically approved body analyser used in some, but not all East Riding libraries to provide free health and wellbeing assessments for library members.
It offers a full body composition scan that includes measurements of bone mass, visceral fat, water content, metabolic rate and metabolic age. Members can track their results using the free Boditrax App, which provides insights in to their health and fitness.
The service is designed to help users understand their health status and set personal health goals.
An appointment can be booked which includes a healthy chat consultation and the results of the Boditrax scan explained to you.
You are given the opportunity to come back for a further consultation over 12 weeks to review your progress.
This can easily be achieved by visiting www.eastridinglibraries.co.uk and book at either Beverley, Bridlington Central, Bridlington North, Goole or Withernsea Libraries.
The staff are brilliant and patient and I would like as many residents as possible to be made aware of this free service.
I think the communications team should consider this to be put in the next publication of Your East Riding.
Some people have already asked me why this free service is only available in a few libraries in East Riding. I don't know, but certainly a roll out to other libraries would seem only fair and I would agree with Cllr. Coultish that approaching the combined authority mayor for funding is the correct route and would be happy to include his amendment in my motion.
So I'm asking all councillors to try this service themselves. I'm sure many have done so already. For those who haven't, let's embrace our prevention strategy and lead by example, so we can pass on a positive experience to our residents and help to improve their health and wellbeing."
Expanding the Reach of Preventative Care
Following the motion's unanimous success, the council will now explore ways to boost public awareness, including featuring the service in the next edition of Your East Riding publication.
Plans are also on the table to look into funding opportunities via the combined authority mayor, with the ultimate goal of rolling out the Boditrax machines to additional libraries across the region to ensure fair and wider access for all residents.
