Fighting for Safer Roads in Flamborough

Speeding vehicles are a major concern across our community. Your local Liberal Democrat team hears this regularly on the doorstep.  Residents have told us enough is enough, and we are determined to work closely with Humberside Police, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, our Parish Councils, and most importantly you, to secure long-term solutions.

As members of our local community, your lived experiences are the most valuable resource we have to build a rock-solid evidence base.  We are backing two brilliant initiatives designed to empower local people to take control of our streets:
​1. Operation Snap: Put the Brakes on Bad Driving
​ Humberside Police are committed to making our roads safer, but they cannot be everywhere at once. That is why they run Operation Snap, and why your local Lib Dem team is urging residents to get involved.

 If you witness a driving offence and capture it on a dashcam, a CCTV system, or a mobile phone (safely by a passenger), you can submit the footage directly via the Humberside Police Operation Snap Portal.

​What Can Be Reported?
​📋 The police investigate a wide range of captured offences, including:
​⚠️ Dangerous or careless driving
​📱 Using a mobile phone while driving
​💺 Not wearing a seatbelt
​🚦 Failing to stop at red traffic lights
​⚪ Crossing solid white lines
​🔄 Any other offence where the driver is clearly not in proper control of the vehicle

​⚖️ If an offence is identified from your footage, the driver faces serious consequences, including prosecution, a driver improvement course, or educational advice.

​2. Community Speedwatch: Empowering Our Villages
​👥 The second scheme we are actively backing is Community Speedwatch. 🏘️ This is a police-led volunteer initiative designed to empower residents in our towns and villages to stand up against speeding.
​📈 There are already 50 active schemes operating successfully across the wider Humberside area, proving that when communities stand together, we can slow traffic down and make our roads safer for everyone.

When drivers see local volunteers out on the roads, they automatically tap the brakes, and that immediate drop in speed makes our villages safer for children, walkers, and cyclists. 🌟 With 50 schemes already running successfully across the region, we want to make sure our ward is fully benefiting from this initiative. 🙋‍♂️ We need volunteers to step forward and help us claim back our quiet streets." Mayor Campbell’s £1.2m Recruitment Fiasco: A "Chaotic and Costly" Waste of Taxpayer Cash

The East Riding Liberal Democrats are demanding answers after it was revealed that Mayor Luke Campbell has blown over £1.1 million on recruitment consultants, yet has failed to secure a permanent leadership team for the Combined Authority. ​Despite a staggering spend of £1,177,159 on outside agencies, the Mayor’s office remains in a state of flux. While nine executive roles, boasting salaries between £110,000 and £170,000; were advertised late last year, the public is still waiting for news of any confirmed appointments. ​ High Salaries, Zero Results ​The scale of the proposed payroll is eye-watering. A Beacon of Hope for Our Youth: Reflecting on the DIY SOS Cherry Tree Big Build.

​Last night, viewers across the country and many of us here in East Yorkshire, tuned in to BBC One to witness a moment of pure community magic. The DIY SOS: Big Build special for the Cherry Tree Youth Hub was a heart-swelling reminder of what can be achieved when a community refuses to take "no" for an answer. ​For years, the youth of the Cherry Tree area have been the forgotten face of local provision. Since the pandemic, they were forced to meet in a gazebo in a park, enduring the biting East Yorkshire winters while waiting for a place to call their own.
