Liberal Democrats Welcome Launch of £100,000 Electric Vehicle Project in East Riding.

​A new initiative aimed at transforming the East Riding's green transport network has officially launched, giving local residents a direct say in the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

​East Riding of Yorkshire Council is investing £100,000 into the scheme, which seeks to identify ideal locations for new public EV charging points. The project focuses heavily on introducing more on-street charging facilities, alongside additional off-street units in council-run car parks, ensuring the area keeps pace with the growing popularity of electric vehicles.

​Crucially, the £100,000 investment serves as a springboard to prepare the local authority for the upcoming Government-funded Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme. Once fully developed, the LEVI scheme will unlock a significantly larger rollout, specifically targeting residential areas with limited or no off-street parking. Local Liberal Democrats have praised the focus on ensuring equitable coverage across both large towns and smaller rural villages.
​As a core part of this project, a dedicated consultation website has been established to gather vital feedback from residents, local businesses, stakeholders, and parish councils.

​A Critical Step for Rural Communities
​Liberal Democrat councillors have welcomed the engagement drive, emphasising that robust charging infrastructure is vital for the region's rural economy and environmental goals.

​How Residents Can Participate
​The newly launched consultation platform features an interactive map of the East Riding, allowing users to pinpoint precisely where they want to see new charging infrastructure. Participants can rate how urgently a charge point is required in their suggested area and provide supporting evidence.
​In addition to the mapping tool, the platform offers resources detailing the scope of the project, information on the upcoming LEVI fund, and links regarding EV availability.

​Council highways team members will use the collected data to prioritise installations based on demand. While all public suggestions will undergo strict feasibility testing, including grid capacity evaluations and cost analysis the council has assured residents that any viable locations not funded by the initial £100,000 scheme will be automatically carried forward for consideration under the forthcoming LEVI programme.

Civic Leaders Praise Goole as Town Hosts Historic Yorkshire Day Celebrations ​Goole had the great honour of hosting Yorkshire Day, marking the same year as the town celebrated its 200th birthday. ​Town Mayor of Goole, Cllr Kevin Flynn, hosted civic dignitaries from across the region as Goole stood at the heart of Yorkshire for the Official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration, organised by Goole Town Council on behalf of The Yorkshire Society.
