Bridlington Residents Invited to Shape Future of Local Healthcare Following Cross Party Pressure

Residents of Bridlington and its surrounding areas are being urged to have their say on the future of local health and care services. A series of community engagement events, hosted by the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust alongside local health partners, will offer the public a vital opportunity to share their experiences, ideas, and priorities.
​The initiative follows sustained pressure from local representatives, including Liberal Democrat ward councillors for Bridlington North, Mike Heslop-Mullens and Jayne Phoenix. The trust has now committed to listening to community views to help build a long-term vision for local medical services.

Event Details
​The informal, drop-in sessions will give attendees the chance to meet staff from local healthcare organisations, learn about future plans for Bridlington Hospital, and review proposals for the Bridlington Care Unit.
​The events are scheduled to take place at Bridlington Spa on:
​Monday 27th July  4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
​Tuesday 28th July 10:00 am to 1:00 pm

A Deeply Personal Five-Year Battle
For Councillor Jayne Phoenix, the launch of this public engagement process marks the latest chapter in what has been a deeply personal, five-year battle to protect Bridlington Hospital. ​Having consistently campaigned against the erosion of local healthcare services, she has spent half a decade fighting to ensure that the town's unique healthcare needs are not ignored by health bosses. Her latest battle is to save the hospital's care unit, which won a short reprieve following cross-party pressure, pending this public consultation.

​Demanding a Fair Deal for Rural Healthcare
​The East Riding Liberal Democrats have long argued that coastal, rural, and semi-rural communities are being left behind by centralised NHS planning. Local campaigners point to a severe lack of NHS dentistry, gaps in dementia care, and recruitment struggles at Minor Injury Units (MIUs) as evidence of a system failing local people.

East Riding Liberal Democrats welcome the consultation, but ate clear that the drop-in sessions must lead to real, tangible changes rather than just paper promises.

​National Support for Local Services
​The fight for better local facilities links directly into a broader national campaign by the Liberal Democrats. The East Riding Lib Dems are fully backing the Medical Services (Rural Areas) Bill, a piece of legislation introduced to Parliament by Lib Dem MP Ben Maguire. The bill aims to legally protect and expand Urgent Treatment Centres and localised hospital services in areas facing geographical isolation.

Civic Leaders Praise Goole as Town Hosts Historic Yorkshire Day Celebrations ​Goole had the great honour of hosting Yorkshire Day, marking the same year as the town celebrated its 200th birthday. ​Town Mayor of Goole, Cllr Kevin Flynn, hosted civic dignitaries from across the region as Goole stood at the heart of Yorkshire for the Official Yorkshire Day Civic Celebration, organised by Goole Town Council on behalf of The Yorkshire Society.
