Hornsea Sports Clubs Secure Over £130,000 in Funding for Major Upgrades
Four community sports groups in Hornsea are set to benefit from a combined investment of £132,845.49 after being awarded commuted sums funding by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The substantial financial boost will support a variety of improvement projects across the town, securing the future of local sports facilities.
The funding distribution highlights a strong commitment to enhancing grassroots sports, ensuring that residents have access to safe, high-quality, and modern environments for recreation.
Capital Injections for Local Clubs
The funding has been allocated across four key sporting organisations in the area:
Hornsea Town Football Club (£74,068.85): Awarded to tackle long-standing structural and waterlogging issues at the Hollis Recreation Ground. The project will deliver essential embankment and drainage works, including regrading the northern bank and installing gabion retaining walls. Combined with additional backing from the East Coast Community Fund, the Football Foundation, and club contributions, the total project cost reaches £133,615.85.
Hornsea Cricket Club (£48,473.64): Allocated for the installation of a new, two-lane enclosed all-weather practice facility. Replacing older, unsafe nets, this year-round training environment aims to boost player development across all age groups. With match funding, the total investment stands at £53,859.60.
Hornsea Bowling Club (£16,283.00): Destined for essential renovations to the outdoor bowling green, which has suffered from deterioration affecting playability. The project includes replacing an ageing irrigation water tank, landscaping, and adding new seating.
Hornsea Promenade Bowls Club (£6,020.00): Secured to refurbish the club’s seafront clubhouse kitchen, bringing in modern facilities with hot running water, alongside converting a lean-to into a secure storage area.
A Major Win for the Community
Local representatives have welcomed the investment, noting the profound impact it will have on Hornsea's community spirit and physical well-being. Speaking on the funding achievement, East Riding Liberal Democrat Spokesperson Cllr Eliza Whitaker emphasised the importance of supporting these vital hubs.
"This is a fantastic boost for Hornsea’s sports community. These clubs are the backbone of our town, providing vital spaces for people of all ages to stay active and connect. By securing this substantial funding, they are not just investing in pitches and pavilions, but in the long-term health, safety, and well-being of our residents. I am absolutely delighted to see these much-needed improvements get the green light." Cllr Eliza Whitaker. East Riding Liberal Democrats Spokesperson
With works set to commence, the upgrades are expected to safeguard the sustainability of these clubs for years to come, ensuring Hornsea remains a vibrant hub for local sport.
