Local Councillors Praise Work as Swanland Park Earns ‘Excellent’ Rating
Swanland Park in North Ferriby has been officially recognises as an outstanding recreational space, earning an "Excellent" overall rating on the Wheree review platform, along with an impressive 9/10 score for safety.
The recognition comes after an open, blind international review conducted under a framework used across 40 countries worldwide. The initiative is run by the international charity Compassion Singapore, which focuses on ensuring safety for children and releasing children from poverty.
A Safe and Welcoming Community Hub
Described as a charming recreational area, Swanland Park provides a clean, well-maintained environment for families and children. The park was recently refurbished with new additions, offering a quiet setting for picnics, playtime, and sports without the usual crowds. Features include ample shaded seating areas, picnic tables, and well-kept facilities for outdoor activities.
"Good to see that Swanland Park is rated excellent on the Wheree website," Cllr Margaret Corless (South Hunsley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council).
Powered by Local Volunteers
The high marks for cleanliness and upkeep are largely credited to hands-on maintenance by local residents and council members who work behind the scenes to keep the grounds in top condition.
"Cleanliness and maintenance are praised and this is down to our local resident volunteers. Thank you to all involved," Cllr Mie Mie Kyaing (Swanland Parish Council).
Cllr Kyaing's commitment to the ward goes well beyond council meetings and this is noticed by fellow Liberal Democrat councillors across the region.
"Mie Mie was litter picking the playing field first thing this morning." Cll Margaret Corless
"That's great Mie, Mie. It's what Libdems do, after all..." Cllr Diane Stewart
Summer Maintenance and Leadership
Maintaining these high standards requires consistent, year-round effort, particularly during peak usage times when families flock to the park.
"The park has been kept at top form with the present chair Alan Smith and the committee throughout the year," "I am lucky to be part of the team and we are keeping it especially safe and tidy during this summer holidays period." Cllr Mie Mie Kyaing
With strong leadership, dedicated volunteers, and top-tier safety marks, Swanland Park continues to serve as a standout green space for North Ferriby and the surrounding communities.
