Lib Dems Commend East Riding Housing Staff Following ‘C2’ Inspection Grade

East Riding Liberal Democrats extend their warm thanks and congratulations to the council's housing team. A recent external inspection commended East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Housing Services for delivering high standards and excellent service to local tenants.

​In April, the local authority received a 'C2' rating from the Regulator of Social Housing (RSH), the council's first assessment under the regulator’s new consumer standards framework.  Of the four levels available C1-C4 East Riding achieved the second from top.

​High Performance Across Key Standards

​Inspectors evaluated the housing team across four primary consumer standards:

-​Neighbourhood and Community

​-Safety and Quality

​-Tenancy

​Transparency, Influence, and Accountability

​The inspection reported high levels of performance in essential health and safety compliance, alongside effective ongoing maintenance and strong tenant satisfaction. Furthermore, inspectors noted that tenancy options are successfully tailored to meet individual and community needs.

​While East Riding Liberal Democrats welcome the report, let’s be clear: full credit goes to the incredible housing officers and frontline staff on the ground. Their daily hard work made this success happen.

​The Liberal Democrat Vision for East Riding Housing

​While praising the housing department’s strong foundation, the East Riding Liberal Democrats belive that achieving a 'C2' grade must be a stepping stone toward a higher standard for housing across the region.

​To build on this progress, the local Liberal Democrat group is championing a set of core housing policies aimed at delivering fairer, greener, and more affordable housing for all East Riding residents:  

​Targeting the Top 'C1' Rating: Pushing the administration to address the remaining development areas swiftly so East Riding can secure the regulator’s top-tier 'C1' inspection rating.

​Expanding Council & Social Housing:

Nationally the Liberal Democrats would like to see councils empowered build significantly more genuinely affordable social homes to reduce local waiting lists and meet growing demand.

​Warmer Homes, Lower Bills: Investing in retrofitting modern insulation, and renewable energy upgrades for council properties to help combat fuel poverty and lower carbon emissions.  

​Bringing Empty Properties Back to Life: We would like to see a strengthening the council's Empty Homes Strategy to bring vacant private and public properties back into active use as housing.  

​Amplifying Tenant Voice:  Tenants deserve a greater influence and representation over estate management, repairs, and community investments to keep accountability at the heart of local services.

​East Riding of Yorkshire Council currently manages approximately 11,200 social and affordable rented properties, including 600 supported housing units across the region.

The Liberal Democrats will continue to back frontline staff while holding the current administration accountable for delivering the housing investment and standards local communities deserve.
